Keeping track of the ever fluctuating cost of gasoline...
Often it's at LEAST 10¢ higher here than in
neighboring counties, I've seen it as high as 60¢. Why it costs 10 to 60
cents more per gallon here than it does anywhere else in Kansas is
beyond me. I guess it's the normal Linn County Greed. I wouldn't call
this a steady incline in prices, more like a good old fashioned gouging!
I never expected to see gas prices under $3 again... never imagined under $2... now (outside Linn County) under $1.90. This page will remain here to remind us where we've been... and will likely be again. For a while, I actually (and I laugh) thought that people here in the U.S. had learned something about fuel economy... but no, as soon as fuel costs fell people started buying gas hogs again.
For quite a while the "Unleaded Plus", which is nothing more than a
10% ethanol blend (probably to counteract the water they dump in the
gas), was less expensive by a few pennies. It was to help promote the
use of the blended fuel and also because it's cheaper than regular
gasoline now. Well diesel fuel is easier to process and make than
regular unleaded is, but look at the price of that now! Last time I saw
diesel fuel it was $3.25 a gallon. Someone had to figure up that a
diesel gets so much per gallon and didn't want their pockets to be any
less empty than unleaded driver's pockets!
I hate the little 9 at the end of gas prices, it reminds me of the foolery that $19.99 isn't really $20. It's just another way
to sneak greed into the equation and kind of sort of hide it. $20 is too expensive for that, make it $19.99! Someone else will say
that $19.99 is too expensive and they'll offer the same piece of junk for $19.95! It also works well without the decimal, go to a
used car lot, that hoopdy car is probably $4999, or $4995... how about a Lexus for $59,999,
because $60,000 is just way too much!
